Free Weights From The Folks Who Fix It
Dumbbells and plates look simple, but cheap coatings chip, handles loosen and adjustable mechanisms jam. We help you build a weight area that is safe, tidy and ready for years of use.
What our repair bench has taught us
Small details decide whether free weights are a good buy.
Coatings and handles decide the lifespan
Rubber and urethane coatings protect floors and outlast thin paint. Handles that are secure to the head do not loosen.
Adjustable mechanisms are the weak spot
Dials and selector pins are convenient, but they are what fails if dropped. We help you pick a sturdy locking design.
Bars and plates must fit each other
Plates should sit on the sleeve without slop and the sleeves should spin. A good bar makes every lift feel better.
Storage prevents damage
Racks keep weights off the floor, prevent trip hazards and protect the weights and the room.
Floors take the hit
Dropped weights damage floors. Rubber flooring protects the floor and makes the room quieter.
Buy the range you will use
Most people buy duplicates in the middle and miss the light and heavy ends. We help you pick the right range.
Match the weights to the way you train
What each type is best at, and what to watch for.

| Barbells and bars | Lifting, curls and specialty work | Rated load, spinning sleeves, correct plate fit |

Common questions
How many dumbbells do I need?
For most home gyms, three to five pairs across your range, or one pair of adjustable dumbbells, is enough to start. We can build a set that fits your budget.
Can you supply weights for a business or apartment gym?
Yes. Tell us how many users you expect and we will suggest the weight range and the storage.
Are adjustable dumbbells worth it?
They save space and cost less than a full set. They are best for home use. Commercial gyms usually prefer fixed dumbbells.
